Defending champions Bengaluru FC registered their first win of this season after crushing southern rivals Chennaiyin FC 3-0 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Erik Paartalu heads it goalwards

Australian midfielder Erik Paartalu opened the scoring in the 14th minute. Captain Sunil Chhetri doubled the home team’s advantage in the 25th minute with a sensational strike. Substitute Semboi Haokip made it 3-0 in the 83rd minute to round off a fine victory for Carles Cuadrat’s men.

Carles Cuadrat’s men drew their opening three matches and will be relieved to have put their first win of the campaign behind them as the league heads into its first international break. For Chennaiyin, however, the wait for a much-needed victory continues as they find themselves rooted to the bottom of the table with just one point from four fixtures.

In fact, the three-goal margin can be seen as a relief. Bengaluru had as many as half-a-dozen chances in the opening ten minutes alone with Paartalu, Juanan, Raphael Augusto, Udanta Singh and Chhetri all in the mix.
